DESCRIPTION:Hey Carbondale! \n \n\nJoin Carbondale Library Manager Lacy Hilterbrand for a conversation with Robin Wall Kimmerer\, author of "Braiding Sweetgrass" on Thursday\, January 21 at 6:00 PM! \n\n \n\nRobin Wall Kimmerer is a mother\, scientist\, decorated professor\, and enrolled member of the Citizen Potawatomi Nation. Her first book\, Gathering Moss: A Natural and Cultural History of Mosses\, was awarded the John Burroughs Medal for outstanding nature writing. She tours widely and has been featured on NPR's On Being with Krista Tippett and in 2015 addressed the general assembly of the United Nations on the topic of "Healing Our Relationship with Nature." Kimmerer lives in Syracuse\, New York\, where she is a SUNY Distinguished Teaching Professor of Environmental Biology\, and the founder and director of the Center for Native Peoples and the Environment. \n\n \n\nAs part of our Winter Reading Challenge\, we're discussing different cultures\, people\, and places around the world-- we can't travel right now but we can dream\, right? Robin's writing explores the joining of her indigenous roots and formal studies into a comprehensive ode to the world around us-- the nations\, cultures\, and peoples that are no longer on the maps we are most familiar with\, yet have extensive knowledge and mastery of the mechanics of our natural world. I'll have a wide-ranging conversation with Robin about her writing and our critical connection to nature in extraordinary times. An audience Q&A will be included. \n\n \n\nHaven't read it?
