Aspen Historical Society and TACAW welcome the community to a family-friendly evening of films and nostalgia featuring a special all-ages après and vintage film screenings! Après begins at 4pm with complimentary apps and a cash bar with a specialty cocktail deal, followed by a specially curated lineup of films from the AHS Archives, from hot-doggin’ retro ski footage to resort promotional videos, and more. Guests are encouraged to come in ski clothes—retro or current—to get in the spirit of winter fun.
The all-ages event is free and open to the public, with first-come seating in the theater and additional viewing room in the lobby.

Beginning of a Love Affair (1976)
Produced by Freewheelin’ Films, this short film tells the story of two pre-teens who fall in love on vacation in Aspen. It stars Kurt Brendlinger, Gilian Handleman, Skip Behrhorst, and Andy Mill, among others. The young couple stays at the Gant, ski on Aspen Mountain, and explore town. Scenes include Wintersköl, the Roch Cup, NASTAR, and nightlife.
Aspen Dream (Circa 1975)
This film was produced by the Weed Patch Camera Club and photographed by Robert Bagley, Sterling Johnson, and Bob Collins. Also listed on the credits are Tom Rowe, Don McKinnon, and Paul Ryan. It features Aspen’s beloved ski phenom Spider Sabich, who also narrates. The film features ski racing with Aspen Valley Ski Club kids, the Popcorn Wagon, Little Nell, many scenes from Snowmass, hang gliding, cycling, ice skating, Gelundesprung, and the ski splash for a glimpse at life in Aspen in the mid 1970s.
It Happens in Aspen (1966)
Produced and directed by Marv Chauvin, this film showcases celebrations for the 20th anniversary of the Aspen Skiing Company. Scenes around town include a “Crud Party” at the Hotel Jerome, dancing at the Copper Kettle, shots of multiple lodges and shops, and Lift One. Friedl Pfeifer is interviewed about the ski area’s early days and many other local personalities are featured including Stein Eriksen, Fred Iselin, Toni Spiss, Walt Smith, Curt Chase, Tom Sardy, Alice Rachel Sardy, Jack Jones, Red Rowland, Art Pfister, Marian Lunow, Flossie Adams, Thelma Sabbatini, Ginny Henry, D.R.C. “Darcy” Brown, Edgar Stanton, Alex Thompson, Bugsy Barnard, John O’Rear, Red Soderstrom, Jill St. John, Ralph Jackson, Bud Law, and Sue Kern. Night club scenes feature Al Stromberg’s restaurant where Al prepares his famous “Diablo Coffee” and Louise Duncan is performing at the piano.
