Sumi Clements and Taryn Vander Hoop of Summation Dance Company launched their most recent choreographic venture, Project Highway Habitus, in fall of 2017. This multi-phased and multi-faceted project began with a cross-country exploration aimed at researching how geography shapes ideology—both political and cultural. The research is being conducted through the lens of habitus—a sociological system aimed at understanding why individuals perceive the world as they do, and how this, in turn, informs their behaviors and participation within society.
